Fly Fishing School
Unsurpassed. Patience.
Fly fishing is a sport filled with beauty. The graceful arc of your fly line, the gentle whisper of the cascading river at your feet, and the simple fact that trout live in some of the most beautiful areas of the world. Immerse yourself in all this beauty and calm in a relaxed teaching atmosphere.
Our fly-fishing school is led by some of Montana’s best guides who are experts in casting, reading rivers and fly selection. Besides being experts on the water, they are patient and conduct these classes in a relaxed, non-intimidating fashion. You will learn the fundamentals that will turn your interest in fly fishing into a passion.

Give a person a fish, and they will eat for a day. Teach a person to fish, and they will never want to go home!
For those that are interested in learning the art of fly fishing, the Bighorn River Lodge offers instructional classes. These classes have been developed for those that want to learn the basics as well as those who just want to brush up on their angling skills.
A typical three-day course includes:
• Equipment Overview
• Basic Entomology
• Fly Selection
• Casting Technique
• Reading the Water
• Fly Presentation
• line management
• Knot Tying
Each clinic day starts with personalized instruction at the lodge and on our private fishing pond. After lunch, students head out on the Bighorn River with their guide to apply what they’ve learned. It’s a great way to “learn on the fly!”
Participants will receive a fly fishing handbook, basic fly fishing tool kit, three days of guided fishing, rental gear, meals, lodging and the building blocks for a lifetime of memories.
